Loss Minimization Control and Energy Consumption Improvements in PMSM drive
Original language description
This paper focuses on loss minimization control (LMC) for an electric vehicle (EV) driven by a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). The goal is to minimize the consumed electrical energy for a given driving cycle. First a theoretical description of LMC will be provided. Then a simulation of the machine (PMSM 100 kW, 5000 min-1) will show the feasibility and expected improvements of the method. The expectation is around 0.5 to 1.5 percent improvement. Experimental validation of the PMSM model is then performed. The EV simulation model is then build with the PMSM model, the EV is driven in a driving cycle and the total energy consumption is calculated. The results show that when the motor parameter are suitable, the efficiency increase can be in the order of few percent. However not all motors can profit of the LMC, the method is strongly dependent on the motor parameters.
