Finite Element Analysis of Glottal Flow Interaction with Oscillating Vocal Folds Induced by Aerodynamical Forces

  • Original language description

The paper is interested in mathematical modelling of human phonation process. To this end a simplified model of the air flow interacting with a vibrating vocal folds is considered. The incompressible air flow model is considered because the air flow velocities are about 80 m/s maximum. The deforming computational domain is treated with the aid of the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method and governed by the 2D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the structural motion modelled by an aeroelastic two degrees of freedom model of the oscillating vocal folds. The problem of glottis closure is addressed using the fictitious porous media flow. The numerical discretization is performed using the stabilized Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical results are shown.
