The paper describes the issues involved in hardfacing titanium and the development and construction of a new workplace designed for hardfacing sensitive materials. The paper defines the requirements for the workplace. It discusses the method of manufacturing individual components. The study was carried out when the chamber was installed at two different sites. A microplasma torch on a DENSO robot and a commercial plasmatron on a welding machine. The functionality of the workplace was tested by hardfacing the Ti6Al4V titanium alloy onto a substrate. The overlays were analyzed metallographically. Hardness was measured.
