Historical Evolution of Microwave Hyperthermia for Cancer Treatment
Original language description
Microwave hyperthermia is one of several applications which use microwave technique for medical purposes. Hyperthermia is ranked among methods of complex treatment of cancer diseases. The history of hyperthermia starts in 19th century, but serious, experimental and well-controlled studies were not begun until the 1960’s. Microwave thermotherapy has better results if it combined with radiotherapy or chemotherapy which depends on the type of tumor. Hyperthermia can be divided in interstitial, endoluminal, local, regional and part-body hyperthermia. The main world societies conversant with thermotherapy are the North American Hyperthermia Society, the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology and the Japanese and China Society of Hyperthermic Oncology.

Czech description
Mikrovlnná hypertermie je jednou z několika aplikací, které využívají mikrovlnnou techniku pro lékařské účely. Hypertermie patří mezi metody komplexní léčby rakovinových onemocnění. Historie hypertermie začíná již v devatenáctém století, ale skutečné experimenty a řízené studie začaly až v šedesátých letech dvacátého století. Mikrovlnná termoterapie má lepší výsledky, když je použita v kombinaci s radioterapií nebo chemoterapií jejichž použití závisí na typu nádoru. Hypertermie může být rozdělena na intersticiální, lokální, regionální a celotělovou hypertermii. Hlavní světové organizace, zabývající se termoterapií jsou NAHS – Severoamerická hypertermická společnost, ESHO – Evropská společnost pro hypertermickou onkologii, a ASHO – Asijská společnost hypertermické onkologie.
