Need for Multiphysics Simulation of MOEMS-based Switch for All-optical Interconnection Networks
Original language description
In all-optical interconnection networks, the routing and switching of signals are performed in optical domain, without signal conversion to the electrical form. There may be used a micro-opto-electro-mechanical system (MOEMS) based switches where the basic switching element is movable micro-mirror. Description of behavior of the switching elements of the switch is a nontrivial problem because the MOEMS-based switch is a nonlinear multiphysical device. There are three physical areas - mechanical, electrical and optical ones. The switching process is realized by electrostatic actuation, which handles the interaction between the mechanical structure of the switch and electric field. Any deformation of mechanical structure affects electric field changes and vice-versa, any change in electric field affects deformation of mechanical structure.
