Original language description
Current optical networks need a conversion of the optical signals to electrical domain and vice versa. From technology point of view, in near future, this optical-electrical-optical (OEO) conversion would be unattractive because of no wavelength transparence. In this paper we describe optical burst switching (OBS) technology and MOEMS-based switching architecture for building core of the OBS interconnection networks. These switches allow switching the optical bursts directly in the optical domain, avoiding the need of number OEO conversions and offers protocol and wavelength independence. We also describe a three-stage Clos network architecture, which may be used for creation of a large-scale switch fabric for core of the OBS network.
