Original language description
One of the interesting problems related to semantic technologies is ontology versioning. In this case simple text-based comparison of versions is logically insufficient. Differences between versions have to be considered according to its semantics, but it is also useful to have a tool that manages standard versioning repository and usual files in a traditional way (like Subversion). In this paper we introduce a system for ontology versioning which is able to work with ontology files (modelled using OWL)from the repositories and provides both standard and semantic diff/merge operations. The whole system (implemented under open-source license) called OWL Version (or OVN) will be based on standard Subversion technology and existing OWLDiff package, whichwill be enhanced in order to achieve functional and technological requirements. Current status of the project is work-in-progress. The finished project will also produce versioning support available as Protégé plugin.
