Controlling Peaks of the Audio Signal by Dynamically Allocated Scale Factor for Lossy Psychoacoustic Encoder

  • Original language description

The paper is aimed at original method of controlling peaks of audio signal by dynamically allocated scale factor. The method is useful in the case of processing audio signal before a psychoacoustic lossy encoder - MPEG1 layer 2 (used in DAB), AAC, HE-AACv1 (used in DAB+), or HE-AAC v2, for example. Such encoders are very sensitive to a clipping product generated by a conventional clipper. Suggested method eliminates most of unwanted spectral components on the clipper output. Therefore, it produces conditions for optimal function of the psychoacoustic lossy encoders. The paper contains both results of measurements and listening tests which clearly demonstrate the improvements.
