This paper looks at the design and optimal control of an electromechanical linear actuator to be used in a six-degrees-of-freedom motion platform application intended for simulation technology. The paper reacts to recent calls in the simulation industryto replace hydraulic cylinders by electromechanical actuators while keeping the kinematic and dynamic parameters unaffected. The paper provides a comparison of both system types with a description of the design of optimal control for electromechanical actuators.
