    An Optimized Dual-Band (L & S) Antenna Low-Noise Preamplifier

  • Original language description

A new type of dual-band antenna low-noise preamplifier (dual-band LNA) has been created, which manages the signals of both classical navigation systems (GPS, GLONASS, Beidou (COMPASS), and Galileo) operating in the L-band at 1.1 through 1.7 GHz and new Indian system NAVIC working in the S-band at the frequencies 2.4835 through 2.5 GHz. The trade-off between the L and S bands as well as an appropriate balancing between the noise figure and transducer power gain in the two bands were enabled by our modified algorithm for multiobjective optimization. The precise design was enabled by our new very precise models of all the passive elements (not only resistors, capacitors, and inductors, but microstrip lines and T-splitters as well), and by our original pHEMT model that is comparable with the contemporary standards in microwave-element nonlinear modeling. Moreover, our pHEMT model contains realistic derivatives of the drain-source current equation up to the third order, which is very important for simulating the third-order intercept point. We have published this comprehensive model at the IEEE RADIO 2016 conference, the paper is now indexed in both Web of Science and Scopus. LNA bases on the substrate Isola 410, used for high frequency circuits, and the entire amplifier is constructed of SMD components. The amplifier features balanced noise figures in both L and S bands, and third-order intercept point well above 30dBm.
