Preface paper to the collection of selected papers from the 2018 edition of the IBWS international workshop published in the Special Issue. The fifteenth of a series of successful workshops on high-energy astrophysics and related ground experiments was held in Karlovy Vary from April 16 to 20, 2018. The INTEGRAL/BART Workshop (IBWS) was a working meeting of experts (with strong participation of young research fellows and students) in the field of space exploration with the help of satellites observing in the - and X-ray regions and the related ground-based experiments using, e.g., robotic telescopes.
