Simulation of Charge Diffusion and Fluorescent Photons in Pixelated CdTe Sensor
Original language description
Hybrid pixel detectors are becoming an integral part of medical imaging, material testing, space science, and many more. Hybrid pixel detectors consist of two parts: a chip with readout electronics and a bump bonded sensor with a top plated cathode and pixelated anode. Sensors are made from various materials such as Si, GeAs, and CdTe/CdZnTe. One of the commonly used materials for X-ray imaging is CdTe due to its high absorption efficiency in the X-ray spectrum. To increase the spatial resolution of the detectors, it is necessary to reduce the size of pixels. However, the decreasing size of pixel pitch leads to raising the impact of charge sharing and fluorescent photons. These effects cause that charge generated upon the absorption of gamma photon is registered by multiple pixels, leading to spectrum distortion. This study simulated the effect of charge sharing and fluorescent photons in 70 μm pixelated CdTe.
