Situational Awareness and Health Monitoring System for the First Responders and CBRN Units

  • Original language description

The paper introduces the AR-Rescue project, which integrates vital signs sensors, environmental sensors, and augmented reality (AR) technology to enhance situational awareness for First Responders (FR) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) units. The goal of the system is to mitigate risks during rescue missions and improve operational effectiveness by providing team members with improved situational awareness. The project focuses primarily on monitoring vital signs, analyzing the collected data, and converting them into situational awareness alerts, which are then communicated to team members via a specialized AR visor. The key contributions of this paper include the introduction of the AR-Rescue system and a discussion of challenges related to the accuracy of situational awareness warnings drawn from collected vital signs data and other design factors such as information presentation and data privacy.
