Project task was to implement a simple software tool for educational purposes with the aim to help students to understand the cache memory inner principles. The implemented application was designed as a model consisting of the main memory, the cache datapart, the cache directory and the bus. Various configurations of the overall memory arrangement are allowed (main memory size, cache size, bus width) and also some parameters as number of ways for associative mapping or write policy can be chosen. The user can interactively control the content of the main memory or the bus, activate read or write commands and observe the resulting cache content including such inner indicators as dirty bits or LRU bits.
