Aviation in the Czech Lands
Original language description
The technical and technological environment in the Czech Lands since the early period of the 19th century was very favorable for the development of aviation, design and manufacturing of either original or licensed aircrafts, engines and equipment very soon after the first flight of Wright brothers. It is not well known that in the small country of some 10 million inhabitants large numbers of different types of original aeroplanes and engines have been designed and manufactured in remarkable quantities. The knowledge and technology level in the country made possible to create very progressive designs which have contributed significantly to the world development of aviation in the past century. The Czechoslovak Republic belonged to a limited number of countries developing and producing aircrafts and pursuing the aeronautical sciences, research, air transport, for civilian and military use.
