This article introduces a multicriteria decision making framework to assist policy makers to evaluate different transportation policies and traffic management solutions in large urban areas, as part of a preliminary project selection process. The proposed framework evaluates alternatives and their potential impacts with respect to nine criteria. This framework has been applied in a case study using the example of the City of Prague, Czech Republic. The example consisted of two scenarios and in each scenarios, six possible solutions. Based on the results, the city?s superior highway network completion is first recommended. Thereafter, implementation of an urban road pricing system is recommended. The main contribution of this article is the universal application of the multicriteria evaluation framework in transportation project selection, which can be used in any city around the world.
