Global Emissions Trading System for Aviation Aspects of market-based solution for aviation emissions
Original language description
At present there are several emissions trading systems in the world including a few related to air transport. However, these systems suffer from some problems with their operations, including the EU ETS, the largest and the most known ETS in the world. The aim of this article is to find out about problems of ETS systems related to aviation and to outline a suitable solution for international air transport. The author recognizes that problems are related to limited regional coverage of present ETSs as well as to political influences. The suggested solution is GETS ? Global Emissions Trading System for air transport, which could overcome disadvantages of present regional solutions and local political situations. The article looks at aspects of implementing global ETS for aviation sector, its positives and possible obstacles. Recent news indicate such a system could be developed by 2016 under supervision of ICAO as a reply to problems of present ETS related to air transport.
