Infrastructure Conditions for the Operation of Alternative Drive Trains in Regional Passenger Rail Transport
Original language description
Modern transport, in terms of vehicle drive, aims to reduce energy consumption and emissions, while reducing energy consumption further leads to lower operating costs and fuel consumption from non-renewable energy sources. The aspect of strategic security is also important, i.e. that energy sources come from politically and security-stable locations. Rail transport has been using a well-managed electric drive for a long time. With the current technological progress, the possibilities of running purely electrically even on permanently non-electrified lines are further expanded. The paper provides an overview of the possibilities of using some vehicles with alternative drives, especially in regional passenger rail transport, focusing on promising electric traction in the form of multiple-powered vehicles (units) and vehicles (units) powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. It presents an overview of the basic infrastructure conditions for the operation of such vehicles and clearly complements them with the outputs of the traffic simulation on a specific railway line Tábor - Horní Cerekev - Jihlava in the Czech Republic.
