VEHICLE CHOICE FOR SUSTAINABLE REGIONAL RAILWAY
Original language description
Regional railway transport is an indispensable part of the transport process, and its importance is growing year by year. Rail transport is generally considered a sustainable form of mobility with societal benefits in terms of air and climate protection, but there is still room for more efficient energy management. This article deals in more detail with the energy management of regional rail transport. Emphasis is placed on a sustainable operating concept that considers energy consumption and vehicle circulation. Properly set capacity of railway unit allows to significantly reduce energy consumption and operational costs during off-peak hours. Reducing energy consumption has a positive effect on reducing emissions, as even traction electricity is not yet completely emission-free. Solutions for the suburban railway line between Ostrava and Opava in the Czech Republic are examined in this article.
