In the participating countries in the 5th EC framework project the problem of how to perform a QA/QC characterization of a large volume waste packages has been recognised as one of the new arising radioactive waste problems. This is due to the fact thatin the near future larger radioactive waste components like from dismantling activities has to be disposed. The goal of this project is the development of non-destructive QA/QC procedures and methodologies for an independent QA/QC characterization of thefissile and non-fissile content of large volume waste packages (minimum respectively maximum volume 600 litre and a 6 metre standard ISO container). As the project is still ongoing, the aim of this paper is to present status of the project and summarizes the achievements reached in the period October 2000 up to August 2002.
