Original language description
A preferential orientation of polymer chains in rigid poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) sheets stretched uniaxially, equally biaxially, and unequally biaxially with a planar strain ratio varying in range 2.0 - 4.84 is characterized by wide angle neutron diffraction (WAND) and transmission optical elipsometry. A slight turn (10o - 25o) of optical indicatrix with respect to the stretch directions is observed for the samples with A = 2.89, 3.36, and 4.84. Pole figure (200) and inverted pole figures obtained fromthe WAND data are compatible with the preferential orientation of polymer chains parallel to the plane of the sheets. An average size of the crystalline domains ~ 5 nm is estimated from the observed WAND patterns. A modified micro-structural model is proposed.
