Original language description
Silicate glasses containing Cr4+ ions were obtained by implantation of O+ ions into the specially designed sodium-silicate glasses containing Cr3+ ions. The implantation resulted in oxidation of the Cr3+ ions into the Cr4+ ions that exhibited photoluminescence around 1300 nm desired for lasers operating in near infrared spectral region. Possible explanation of this effect and description of involved processes are presented.
