Importance of XRPD for chemical synthesis of oxide nanomaterials

  • Original language description

Various different applications of X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) for characterization of oxide nanomaterials are discussed ? most notably phase identification, crystallite size determination and both detection and quantification of solid solution in thecase of mixed oxides. Illustrative examples for all these uses of XRPD are presented by measured and analysed diffractograms of several oxide (AOx) or mixed oxide (AOx-BOy) nanomaterials with broad range of applications. These oxides or their precursorswere prepared by UV-light- or electron-beam-induced reactions in aqueous solution containing soluble metal salts. Such a preparation method is still only seldom discussed in literature and many aspects are still relatively un known. XRPD is one of the analytical methods capable of providing insight to the mechanisms involved, mostly by identification of solid precursor composition. Also, the effect of calcination temperature on the precursor was briefly discussed in relation to the abov
