Diode-Pumped Er:CaF2 Crystal 2.7 μm Tunable Laser
Original language description
The spectroscopic and laser properties of Er:CaF2 crystal were investigate. Under pulsed 975 nm laser diode pumping the mid infrared (2.7 µm) radiation was obtained with slope efficiency up to 3 %. The relatively low slope efficiency can be explained by a not optimized overlapping of pumping beam and the laser resonator mode. Significant improvement can be expected by optimizing this parameter together with reducing the intra-cavity losses by means of an anti-reflection-coated active medium and using of artificial atmosphere inside the laser resonator. Using the MgF2 birefringent filter the Er:CaF2 laser tunability from 2692 up to 2840 nm was reached, which is significantly wider comparing with the Er:CaF2 ceramics results (2775-2805 nm). The demonstrated broad gain bandwidth of ~4 THz (FWHM) makes this laser potentially attractive to ultra-short pulse generation in the 2.7 µm region (corresponding Fourier limited Gaussian pulse width 110 fs.
