Compact Fe:ZnSe and Fe:ZnMnSe tunable lasers at 80 K pump with Er:YAG
Original language description
Nowadays, the compact laser sources in mid-infrared (3 - 8 μm) spectral range are required for medicine (non-invasive laser diagnostic), military (rangefinders, guiding of missile, counter measure or target aiming) or in spectroscopy (remote sensing of gas). The diode-pumped Er:YAG well fits the absorption band of Fe2+ ions and can be used to pump Fe:ZnMnSe active medium, with fluorescence spectrum shifted further to mid-IR compared to Fe:ZnSe crystal. However, the liquid nitrogen temperature has to be used in case of long (free-running) pulse excitation due to short fluorescence lifetime at room temperature caused by non-radiative quenching. In this work, to our best knowledge, we present first compact tunable Fe:ZnMnSe liquid nitrogen cooled laser pumped with diode-pumped Er:YAG.
