This contribution summarizes the techniques of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and hybrid PLD for preparation of nanocomposite thin layers of biocompatible materials. Attention is focused on the layers of diamond-like carbon (DLC), hydroxyapatite (HA), TiC, TiCN, SiC and the layers doped with silver or chromium. Smooth, homogeneous film with good adhesion over the large area were prepared. The DLC layers were created by PLD in vacuum or Ar ambient. The HA layers were created by PLD in argon/water ambient.The hybrid laser-magnetron deposition system and the hybrid PLD-RF discharges system was developed and tested for study of carbon based thin film coatings. Various geometrical configurations and deposition conditions were tested. Films of TiC, TiCN andSiC were synthesized.
