Microbial Contamination of Different Types of Air Filters
Original language description
Airborne infectious diseases transmission in air-conditioned spaces could represent an important public health issue. To evaluate microbial contamination of the airconditioning system air filters, two kinds of air filters were included to the study. The HEPA filters from commercial aircraft and the HEPA filter from household air conditioner were tested. Preferentially the pathogenic bacterial species and respiratory viruses were searched and the detection revealed Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Clostridium tetani, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Morganella morgani, or Escherichia coli contaminating the commercial aircraft air filter. In the household air conditioner air filter respiratory viruses were detected.
