Calibration of the Combination Factor for Fire Design Situation
Original language description
The reliability based study on the combination factor Psi for variable action Q is based on the design procedure recommended in EN 1990 Basis of Structural Design and in EN 1991-1-2 Actions on Structures - Part 2/2: Actions on Structures Exposed to Fire.Submitted investigation of a steel component is primarily focused on application of expression (6.11) of EN 1990. It appears that the combination factor Psi should be specified taking into account the type and extent of compartment area A, active and passive measures, and the load ratio Chi = Qk/(Gk+Qk)of the characteristic values of a variable load Qk and the total load Gk+Qk. It is further shown that in particular structural conditions the combination factor Psi may be optimised to achieve the minimum total cost.
