Reliability Analysis of Impact due to Road Vehicles
Original language description
Reliability anaylsis of a reinforced concrete bridge pier exposed to persistent and accidental design situations is based on probabilistic methods. Principles and rules of Eurocodes and recommendations given in JCSS Probability Model Code are consideredin the analysis of accidental design situation due to an impact caused by road traffic under the bridge. It appears that the reliability of the bridge pier at persistent design situation is sufficient (the reliability index beta is about 5). Probabilityof the pier failure given an accidental impact seems to be relatively high for highway and road traffic (from 0,20 to 0,25), nevertheless, within the acceptable range recommended by the European documents. Further research should be focused on probabilistic models of accidental impact forces and on probabilistic risk assessment.
