Original language description
Reliability analysis of a reinforced concrete bridge column exposed to accidental impact is based on probabilistic methods. Principles of Eurocodes and recommendations given in JCSS Probabilistic Model Code are considered in the analysis of accidental design situation due to an impact caused by road traffic under the bridge. It is shown that the reliability of the bridge column designed according to Eurocodes at persistent design situation is sufficient. Probability of the column failure given an accidental impact seems to be relatively high for highways and road traffic, nevertheless, within the acceptable range recommended by the European documents.
