Probabilistic Basis of Present Codes of Practice
Original language description
The theory of structural reliability becomes a powerful tool used for the development of new standards, and alternatively for the direct verification of newand existing structures. Recently revised national and international standards for structural design are systematically based on probabilistic concepts, mathematical statistics and on the theory of structural reliability. The International Standard ISO 2394 plays a key role to constitute a common basis for defining design rules relevant to the construction and use of the wide majority of buildings and civil engineering works. The reliability bases of operational method of partial factors are reviewed and suggestions for possible revisions or updating of the operational design methods of partial factors are indicated.
