Reliability Optimization of Bridges Based on Risk Assessment
Original language description
Reliability optimization of road bridges is based on risk assessment considering impact forces. The risk assessment and reliability optimization is particularly valuable for strategic bridges. The objective of risk assessment is to minimize the societaland economic risk. The approach proposed in the paper enables to optimize the reliability of structures taking into account impact forces due to different type of vehicles and road conditions. The extreme accidental events include impacts of heavy goodsvehicles. The main societal risk associated with the collision is the harm to peoples. To determine the significance of societal risks, the concept of the Life Quality Index (LQI) is applied. It appears that the Bayesian networks provide suitable tools for the risk analysis in accidental design situation.
