Original language description
This study focuses on reinforced concrete chimneys and their reliability. One of the main degradation factors affecting the reliability of these structures is the corrosion of reinforcement caused by the carbonation of concrete cover. The study presents an example of estimating the time-dependent reliability of a reinforced concrete chimney using probabilistic methods with an updated carbonation model. The study concludes that in common cases, the carbonation-induced corrosion has an insignificant effect on the structural reliability, and that monitoring data can have a significant impact on reliability estimates.
