Non-destructive Observation of Damage Processes in precracked specimens by X-Ray Dynamic Defectoscopy
Original language description
This work devotes to the new, direct and nondestructive experimental method called "X Ray Dynamic Defectoscopy (XRDD)". The XRDD technique enables on-line observation of time-dependent material density variations with micrometric accuracy. This techniqueis realized because a fast, pixel, single X-ray photon counting system called Medipix became available. The Medipix detection system is arranged as a matrix array of single detecting pixels. The XRDD method was born from an experimental program measuring the development and evolution of internal damage in specimens. The test sample is illuminated by X rays during the loading process. Special attention has been paid to the precise determination of attenuation along the beam direction. Measured changes in transmission represent effective alterations in the sample thickness, which are understood as weakening of the material due to damage volume fraction resulting from loading stress.
