Development of Lightweight TRC Panel for Sustainable Building Envelope
Original language description
Concrete is the second most used material in civil infrastructure. Reduction of this material is a key factor for sustainable buildings. Ordinary reinforced concrete is not applicable for very subtle structures due to needed layer of concrete against corrosion. Use of textile reinforcement instead of classic steel reinforcement enables to design very thin elements with significantly reduced use of concrete while keeping mechanical properties on required standards. It also leads to the reduction of environmental impacts especially the consumption of primary energy, primary non-renewable raw materials, transport energy, reduced dead load acting on the supporting structure, etc. This paper describes the fabrication process of a new type of TRC facade panel that incorporates polystyrene prisms between AR-glass textile grids and thereby significantly reduced even more weight and amount of concrete. The results of mechanical testing are compared with the classic TRC facade panel and also evaluate the environmental aspects. The environmental analysis and comparison with standard solution are also presented.
