Utilization of Smearing Methods to Determine the Areal Activity of Selected Surfaces of the Urban Infrastructure
Original language description
Within the research project „Modern methods of detection and identification of dangerous CBRN substances and materials, methods of their decontamination and reduction of danger, modern means of protection of persons“ was searched for the optimal way of detection of surface contamination of surfaces after explosion of dirty bomb. A swab method was used to determine the extent of surface contamination of the surface and the type of contaminant used. This method was applied to selected elements of urban infrastructure, such as cobblestones, paving stones, tiles, plastic window sills and glass. At the same time, the effect of the detergent used on the quality of the swab was monitored. A 5% aqueous dishwashing solution, 10% aqueous RDS 2000 solution, 3% aqueous ODS-5 reagent, and denatured alcohol were used as detergent. The smear methods were used to determine the surface activity of the lanthanum-140 contaminated surface. Based on the results obtained, it can be stated that the abrasion method is suitable for the determination of surface activity on glass or sill, where the efficiency of the value determination exceeded 80% of the applied value, but it is not applicable for paving or interlocking pavement surfaces. values of the aktivity.
