The contribution deals with a possible treatment of tanned and non - tanned leather waste of leather - making industry to protein hydrolysates. An enviromental impact of leather waste is discussed with regarding of its possible ways how it could be processed into materials used in agricultural fertilizers, animal glues of aminoplastic type for upholstery or in surfactants. The paper tried to recapitulate knowledge about ways of leather waste treatment and proposed processes for their manufacturing to protein hydrolysates. All propounds are based on the research of mentioned sort of waste made in Tomas Bata University in Zlin.
