The Effect of Low Profile Aditives on the Curing of an Unsaturated Polyester Resin
Original language description
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of two LPAs, namely poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and thermoplastic polyurethane (PU) and their concentrations on volume shrinkage during the curing process of UP resin at various initial temperature.A home#built cylindrical dilatometer, which allowed for on-line measurement of shrinkage was employed. The temperature inside the cylinder was measured by a thermocuple. In order to obtain a degree of conversion and kinetic parameters of curing reactionDSC was employed too. Based on integral experimental results from volume change, temperature change, DSC measurement and morphology, the mechanism of LPA action in volume shrinkage control and factors, which effect the overall volume change during the cure, are discussed.
