Production of biogas from solid leather waste
Original language description
About 75 % chromium containing solid leather waste produced in the leather industry after chromium tanning represent huge amounts on a world wide basis.this waste is potentially hazardous for environment and considered as chemical waste. To transform this hazardous waste into a precious resource of both chromium and collagen several methods has already been developed. Chrome sludge is the residual solid leather waste produced during of enzymatic - alkaline hydrolisation of chrome shavings/ splits, whichrequired further treatment. Since chrome shavings / splits and chrome sludge both contains chromium - b-unded protein and other organic and inorganic substances, these were used for anaerobic digestion for biogas production. According to the results of laboratory observations chrome shavings / splits as a solid leather waste is not suitable for biogas production but chrome sludge is a potential substrate for the same. Maximum rate of biogas production was observed at (chrome sludge: inoc
