Sol-gel process for thin films preparation
Original language description
Thin films formed by the sol-gel process are a wide area of active research, mainly due to its simple process. Consequently, the vast papers published, involving sol-gel process for making thin films, in the last years has been too huge to be entirely synthesized in this review. However a general and simple review based on some known books and published articles (Klein [1], 1988, Livage et al. [2], 1988, Hench and West [3], 1990 and Brinker and Scherer [4], 1990) is highlighted here. This paper outlines, in a first section, the sol-gel process in a very general point of view, and in a second section, the sol-gel process for making thin films. Discussion of salient features of dip-coating and spin-coating based on various means of in situ characterization of the film deposition process are performed. Areas of application of important materials created by thin-film deposition processes are also mentioned. Finally, a brief revision about thin film characterization is enhanced in the last
