The aim of the work was to evaluate the total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity and nitric oxide scavenging activity of chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa Michx.) extracts. Two cultivars, namely ´Nero´ and ´Viking´, were used. The methanolic extracts ofthis fruit species appeared to have high total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and nitric oxide scavenging activity (NOSA). Higher values of TAC and NOSA were determined in the cultivar ´Nero´ which is Czech in origin. In fruit of the ´Nero´ cultivar the highest content of total phenolics (TPC) was also observed. The presented results may be used when popularizing this fruit species and also when studying the properties of new food and genetic resources.
