Properties evaluation of hybrid composites based on epoxy resin modified with polyurethane and montmorillonite
Original language description
Montmorillonite (MMT) and polyurethane (PUR) obtained from polyethylene glycol (PUR 400) and polyoxypropylene (PUR 1002) were used to enhance the mechanical properties of epoxy resin. The impact strength, flexural strength and critical stress intensity factor were used to characterize the hybrid compositions containing 2% MMT and different amount (5%-20%) of PUR. Maximum impact strength improvement was obtained with hybrid composition containing 2% MMT and 10% PUR 400 attaining approximately 110% highervalue than unmodified epoxy resin. Moreover, tenfold increase in relation with pristine epoxy resin samples was observed for the strain at break of hybrid composition containing 15% PUR 1002 and 2% MMT.
