Biodegradation of synthetic polymers application of TGGE
Original language description
Growing production of polymer materials and simultaneously growing problem of polymer wastes have promoted the development and applications of biodegradable polymers. Although the materials are claimed by their producers to be biodegradable and in agreement with some international standards little is known about their fate in real environments and about microorganisms which participate on the process. In our lab we try to combine more conventional methods of polymer biodegradation monitoring with cultivation independent molecular biology methods to get a new insight into the microbiology of the process.
