The role of powder particle size distribution on the processability of PIM compounds

  • Original language description

Requirements arising from the particular steps of PIM process are often ontradictory. This stands in the first place for the characteristic of powder, which is always a compromise among various demands. Particle size distribution plays a key role among the powder parameters influencing the rheological properties PIM compounds. In this work four kinds of hard-metal carbide powders differing in their particle size distributions were considered to investigate their effect on flow properties with regard topowder packing limits as well as temperature and pressure sensitivity. As the processability of PIM compounds is determined not only by the viscous properties, but also by their elasticity, dynamic viscoelastic properties are also determined in order toobtain information on the structural changes during shear deformation. Finally, the obtained results reveal that particle size distribution is a parameter considerably influencing nature of the internal structure and its reformation durin
