Poly(vinyl alcohol)-poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) Blends: Preparation and Characterization for a Prospective Medical Application
Original language description
Poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) were blended and films were obtained by casting method. Glutaraldehyde, hydrochloric acid and lactic acid were added to investigate their effect on mechanical properties, swelling and solubility of the blends with the aim to find a possible material candidate for medium or long term implants. Combination of all three additives (lactic acid, glutaraldehyde and hydrochloric acid) proved as the best choice for poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) filmsproduction with respect to examined properties important for any indwelling medical application.
