    The Fischer indolisation of N-(?-ketoacyl)anthranilic acids

    As a part of our continued interest in the reactivity of title compounds toward various reagents, we have studied Fischer indole reaction starting from appropriate phenylhydrazones as well as one-pot protocol starting from N-(?-ketoacyl)anthranilic acids. One of our ideas was to find a novel route to 2-(indol-2-carboxamido)benzoic acids as starting materials for subsequent cyclodehydration leading to appropriate 2-(indol-2-yl)-3,1-benzoxazin-4-ones. We realized that Fischer indole reaction of title compounds leads to three kinds of products, including desired 2-(indol-2-carboxamido)benzoic acids, their phenylhydrazides, and the mentioned benzoxazinones. Various derivatives of 2-(indol-2-carboxamido)benzoic acids can exhibit biological activity and someof them were isolated from nature. Substituted 3,1-benzoxazin-4-ones are interesting heterocyclic compounds, which may find application as novel therapeutic agents, agrochemicals, industrial additives or intermediates in organic synthese
