Dimorphic magnetorheological fluid with improved oxidation and chemical stability under oscillatory shear
Original language description
In the present work, conventional and dimorphic MR suspensions consisted of carbonyl iron (CI) micro particles and iron (Fe) rod-like nanoparticles were studied. The Fe particles were synthesized via a simple surfactant-assisted solvothermal method. Since the oxidation and chemical corrosion decreases MR behavior, both types of particles were further coated with polysiloxane. The structure and morphology of pure and polysiloxane-coated particles were observed via scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The successful particles coating with polysiloxane was also verified Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Prepared MR suspensions of pure and polysiloxane-coated dimorphic systems dispersed in silicone oil were performed under oscillatory shear at various magnetic flux densities. Furthermore, the oxidation and chemical stability were greatly improved after the coating as was proved via thermal gravimetric analysis and resistance to corrosion by acids test.
