Dress based on the Marie de' Medici's Portrait Fashion Changes in the Life of the French Queen
Original language description
The article presents a functional reconstruction of a garment of French Queen Marie de Medicis based on the Peter Paulus Rubens's painting cycle (1622 - 24, Louvre, Paris). The sources for this reconstruction were the primary (period artworks and extantoriginal garments) and the secondary sources, such as the conclusions of conservator analyses and publications presenting the experiences with clothing reconstruction. The second contribution of the article is the analysis of Marie de Medicis's portraitsand its period context fitting. The portraits document well the fashion changes which took place during the Queen's lifetime.
