Original language description
The intrinsic strengths for ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), varied in carbon black type N330, N550 and in the volume 50, 70 and 90 phr have been compounded and evaluated. The measurement was based on quasi-static tension loading on an edge-cracked pure shear specimen, combined with frictionless cutting via a sharp blade. The cutting force and prestress parameters were varied automatically using the Intrinsic strength Analyzer (ISA©) instrument manufactured by Coesfeld GmbH. It was observed that the intrinsic cutting energy decreases with increase of carbon black content independent on its type, however the intrinsic cutting energy rapidly decrease with increase of carbon black particle diameter.
