Original language description
The intrinsic strength was evaluated for EPDM, with varied carbon black type N330, N550 and in the volume 50, 70 and 90 phr. The measurement was based on quasi-static tension loading on an edgecracked pure shear specimen, combined with frictionless cutting via a sharp blade. The cutting force and pre-stress parameters were varied automatically using the Intrinsic Strength Analyzer (ISA©) instrument manufactured by Coesfeld GmbH. It was observed that the intrinsic cutting energy decreases with increase of carbon black and the dominant effect of the carbon black particle diameter has been determined.
